Keeping a perfectly stocked medicine cabinet is much easier when you have the advice of holistic pharmacist and health author, Sherry Torkos. Appearing on Winnipeg’s CTV News, the author of The Canadian Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine said a lot of Canadians suffer with digestive problems. She suggests keeping Sunfiber on hand. This soluble fiber helps promote regularity and supports overall health. And, its versatility may even encourage you to move it out of the medicine cabinet and into your kitchen’s pantry.
Dietary fiber from fruits, vegetables and whole grains, helps promote a healthy digestive system and is an essential part of a balanced diet. “For a lot of Canadians, digestive problems, whether its constipation, gas, bloating or other issues can occur,” said Torkos. “It’s because we’re not getting enough fiber in our diets.”
Soluble fiber helps promote intestinal and colon health by helping move food through the intestines. “This is a really good form of soluble fiber to keep on hand. It’s a regulating fiber,” said Torkos. “It’s called Sunfiber.” This fiber supplement not only helps with occasional constipation, but also with occasional diarrhea. Sunfiber may also help your body absorb essential nutrients, such as calcium, iron and zinc and help lower blood glucose levels.
Sunfiber has another health benefit, which not all fiber supplements can claim: it acts as a prebiotic. Prebiotics help stimulate growth and activity of beneficial digestive flora. This can lead to bloating.
Sunfiber is a fine, white powder which can easily be blended into most foods and beverages. “You mix it with water. It’s tasteless and odorless. It’s great,” Torkos commented. She recommends drinking plenty of water with fiber supplements, to help the fiber move through your body. Sunfiber can also be used when cooking or baking. The gluten-free supplement readily dissolves crystal clear into other ingredients. “I highly recommend fiber supplements,” Torkos said, “not just for regularity, but for overall well-being.”
